Barwon Heads Hotel Lunch & Beach Walk

The boys arrived at the hub at 9:00am in great spirits, ready to kick off another Monday together. We started the morning with breakfast and morning tea before settling into some arts and crafts, where the boys continued painting their own t-shirts. A couple of participants opted for a relaxed start to the day with a movie, while the rest worked creatively on their designs.

At 10:00am we headed out for our outing to the Barwon Heads Hotel. Everyone was excited for the trip, and once we arrived, we found a comfortable spot outside to enjoy lunch in the warm weather. The meals were a hit, and the group enjoyed a refreshing soft drink together before setting off on a short beach walk along the foreshore.

With the temperature climbing quickly, we made the decision to head back to the hub early, arriving around…

Thursday Group 4/12/25

Today brought a warm, festive energy to the BSS Hub as everyone settled into a relaxed and enjoyable Wednesday program.

The morning started with calm arrivals and morning tea while participants explored craft activities and socialised. Mid-morning, the group headed out to choose this year’s Christmas tree—always a favourite outing. Everyone helped pick the perfect tree, and we captured some great photos to mark the moment before bringing it back to the hub.

Back home, a delicious roast lunch was served, filling the hub with Christmas aromas and plenty of smiles. After lunch, the afternoon opened up into a mix of creative, social and sensory activities.

One of the highlights was Steven designing and making his own shirt, choosing his colours and getting involved in each step. He was proud of his creation and enjoyed showing everyone his design.

Meanwhile, the pool area was buzzing.Ann and Rosie spent a few…

Tuesday Group 2/12/25

Today’s Tuesday Group was smooth, settled, and full of good engagement across the board. Everyone eased into the morning with their usual routines—UNO, pool, morning tea—setting a positive tone for the day.

By mid-morning, participants split into their preferred activities. Drew and Loughlin enjoyed a few friendly rounds of pool, the movie room was popular with Christmas movies fitting for the first week of December, and others spent time in the craft area working on creative projects.

Lunch was a hub favourite: a BBQ with everyone choosing something they liked and enjoying music and conversation together. After lunch, the group headed out to bowling where the energy stayed high—Sarah took out the win and was very proud of herself!

Back at the hub in the afternoon, staff focused on supporting individual needs:

• offering activity choices for the girls

• engagement and social connection with the boys

Monday Group 1/12/25

We kicked off the first Monday of December with a relaxed and social day at the BSS Hub.Loughlin arrived with Drew right on 9:00am, and shortly after we welcomed Jemmerson and Stephen with Erynn. Everyone settled in beautifully and eased into the morning with their preferred activities—UNO games, computers in the games room, and some quiet time in the movie space.

Late morning, the group took a short outing to the Races Café by the lake, where everyone enjoyed a drink of their choice and plenty of laughs. It was a great chance for the boys to get some fresh air and engage in positive social connection with staff and each other.

Back at the hub, we took some quiet time before lunch. A hot meal of spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread was served—and it was a hit! Every bowl was finished, and the boys enjoyed a calm, happy…

Monday 24 November — Strawberry Picking & Torquay Fish & Chips

All the boys arrived at the hub in great moods after enjoying their weekends, and everyone was pumped for the big day ahead. We jumped straight onto the bus and headed down to Armstrong Creek, with some tunes playing to set the vibe for the morning.

Our first stop was the strawberry farm, where everyone grabbed a container and headed out to pick fresh strawberries to take home to their families. A few definitely disappeared before making it into the buckets — but that’s all part of the fun. Once everyone was stocked up with berries, we hopped back on the bus and made our way to sunny Torquay.

For lunch, we grabbed fish and chips from the local shop and took it down to a table by the waterfront. James was especially a big fan of the potato cakes. After lunch, most of the boys slipped into a bit of…

Thursday 20 November — Discovery Science Centre & Fish & Chips Lunch

Today was a fantastic day for the group, filled with exploration, social growth, and plenty of shared enjoyment.

We spent the morning at the Bendigo Science and Technology Centre, where participants explored a wide variety of hands-on exhibits and interactive displays. The group moved through the centre with enthusiasm and curiosity. Jemmerson and Loughlin especially loved investigating all the little bits and bobs, taking their time with the interactive features and asking lots of questions.

A standout highlight of the day was the growing friendship between Rosie and Anneliese. Their connection is really beginning to shine, with both girls engaging more with each other and offering support throughout the visit. This emerging relationship has been wonderfully positive for Rosie, who is showing increasing confidence and comfort within the group environment.

We wrapped up the outing with a classic fish and chips lunch, enjoyed by everyone before heading back to the hub…

Monday 17 November — T-Shirt Designing, Parmas & Bowling

Another great Monday in the books with all the boys. We kicked off the morning with an activity everyone had been looking forward to — designing and colouring their own t-shirts. Lochie and Stephen, along with Erynn, spent the morning helping the boys create shirts featuring all their favourite things. The results were fantastic, and the boys were absolutely stoked with how their shirts turned out.

Meanwhile, Jem and James swapped between watching The Wiggles and Megamind, enjoying a calm and cosy morning in the warm hub.

For lunch, we cooked homemade chicken parmas and potato wedges in the air fryer — and there were definitely no leftovers. After lunch, the group headed out for ten pin bowling. Lochie took the win this time and was pretty pleased with himself. It was great to see someone other than Stephen in first place for once, although Stephen made it very clear he’ll be…

Sunday 16 November — St Kilda Market & Ice Cream Treat

The day began with a cheerful bus ride, filled with conversation and plenty of excitement for our trip to the St Kilda Market. When we arrived, the weather wasn’t ideal, so the group shifted plans and explored a nearby area with lots of open shops to browse through. Everyone enjoyed taking their time wandering around before settling in for a relaxed lunch.

Lindy especially enjoyed her souvlaki, and Sophie had a great time admiring all the cakes and slices displayed in the bakery windows — lots of colours and treats to look at! After lunch, the group headed off for another walk to explore more of the area.

On the way home, we made a stop for ice cream, which was a hit with everyone. A standout moment of the day was Sophie greeting people and happily patting every friendly dog that passed by — her excitement brought plenty of…
